  • What causes black spots and white spots on my drive or patio decking areas?
    Black spot on a patio, drive , paving slabs or decking area is a form of black lichen that clings tenaciously to stone surfaces and is very hard to combat without chemicals. It thrives in outdoor environments and is usually at its worse in the shadier parts of the garden, near walls, under trees etc, and thrives on porous natural stone. Black spots can also be caused by a type of algae called black spot algae. White Spots on Patio, Driveway, Paving slabs and decking areas are called Lichen: Lichen are stubborn white spots and although they are stubborn they are easily removed than the black spots mentioned above. Both black and white spots when wet can become slippery, so not only do they look unsightly but overtime can be quite dangerous. When jet washing we will always try to remove both black and white spots and will usually use a chemical to achieve this.
